If you’ve read Noodle & Bao, you might be thinking…hm, is this not the plot of the book? And yes. Yes, it totally is. A key plot of point of the book was inspired by the 2017 hotel proposals in Boston and other modern day struggles in Philly and NYC Chinatown, so it feels especially timely for the book to release now.
Speaking of Noodle & Bao …
✨ NOODLE & BAO thank yous ✨
My first book also came out a month ago in October, and I meant write to you all then. So much has happened since then, but I thought I’d share some gratitude for people’s support of the book. Writing a book feels deeply lonely, but I truly felt all the community love this past month. <3

At my Boston book launch: BIG gratitude to Ashley Yung (Pao Arts Center, Boston Chinatown’s own arts center) for putting together such a beautiful event, to Alison Qu (CHUANG Stage, Boston’s Asian American theatre) for putting on a staged reading that moved me to tears, to Laurence Louie (Rubato) for moderating the Q&A, and of course, to my Wah Lum family for the lion dance. We had over 100 folks (including my family, from California!!) come through, and I was really touched at the turnout.

Thank you to Boston Comics Arts Foundation for sending me to Comics Camp Raw Art Works in Lynn to meet with the sweetest group of youth comic artists.
We also had a sweet event at Rubato HK Café. Chef Laurence Louie made his own take on Bao’s Special Bao. Of course, it was delicious.
Finally, I had so much fun tabling with Katelyn Lipton and Vivian at Philly Zine Fest, and then having a cozy book event at Ginger Arts Center (a community youth arts center, run by youth in Philadelphia Chinatown). Thank you to Claire for hosting us, and to super star friend Lily Xie for moderating the discussion with local writer/organizer Lauren Lowe. Support Ginger Arts Center here.
